Right of Way Agent
Position summary
Agents contact landowners, present offers, negotiate easements, and write down every step for the client's record. This is field work. Expect windshield time, farm visits, courthouse trips, and conversations at kitchen tables.
Responsibilities
- Contact landowners by letter, phone, and in person to introduce a project and explain what is being requested.
- Present offers, negotiate easement and option terms, and secure signed agreements.
- Perform or coordinate ownership research and assist with title curative items.
- Log every landowner contact accurately and promptly in the project database.
- Coordinate with title companies, attorneys, surveyors, and client project managers.
- Assist with damage settlement and access issues during construction.
- Report tract-level status on the schedule the project requires, including tracts that are behind.
Qualifications
- Prior right of way, land, title, or real estate experience preferred.
- Ability to read legal descriptions, plats, and route maps.
- Good written records. The file has to hold up under audit.
- Comfortable working independently on rural property and around agricultural operations.
- Able to stay steady in a difficult conversation.
Requirements
- United States citizenship.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to travel and to work variable hours during active acquisition.
